Happy Star Wars Day: May the 4th be with you!

Star Wars is an amazing space-fiction series and has one of the biggest fan bases in the entire pop culture. However, it can be extremely confusing for those looking to begin watching Star Wars. Celebrating Star Wars day, today we will look at the correct timeline for Star Wars. Note that we'll discuss both animated and live-action movies and shows but not the games and novels because we believe they're mostly canon and don't contribute much to the main focus of the series, aka the Skywalker Saga.

Star Wars movies were released weirdly, so you have two ways of watching them: either the order of their release or chronological order. So let's start discussing what the chronological order is..

1. Star Wars: A Phantom Menace (Episode I)

2. Star Wars: Attack of the Clones (Episode II)

3. Star Wars: The Clone Wars (animated movie)

4. Star Wars: The Clone Wars (animated series) && Revenge of the Sith (Episode III))

The Clone Wars and Revenge of the Sith have many parallels that might make them confusing and prone to spoilers. I recommend watching the Revenge of the Sith first and then the Clone Wars (both movie and show)

5. The Bad Batch (animated series)

Takes place right after the ending of Revenge of the Sith and the Clone Wars. It can be skipped as it doesn't contribute much to the Skywalker Saga.

6. Solo: A Star Wars Story

7. Star Wars: Rebels (animated series)

Can be skipped as it doesn't contribute to the Skywalker Saga.

8. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Takes place right before the events of A New Hope

9. Star Wars: A New Hope (Episode IV)

10. Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back (Episode V)

11. Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (Episode VI)

12. The Mandalorian

Can be skipped as it doesn't contribute much to the Skywalker Saga although we recommend watching it because of its extremely well-written plot and overall brilliance.

13. Star Wars: Resistance (animated series)

Can be skipped as it doesn't contribute much to the Skywalker Saga.

14. Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Episode VII)

15. Star Wars: The Last Jedi (Episode VIII)

16. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (Episode IX)

Watching Star Wars can be confusing at first glance but it's totally rewarding. The space-fiction epic series is one of the most successful franchises in the world with movies grossing over $10 billion.

Disney+ is producing 3 more major shows contributing to the Skywalker Saga: Kenobi, Ahsoka and Boba Fett, each based on the characters they're named after. Boba Fett will be out by the end of this year, but until then may the force be with you...
