Why Anakin Skywalker wasn't able to defeat Obi-Wan Kenobi even after being more powerful

| Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi |
Although Master Obi-Wan was the undisputed master of Soresu (the most defensive lightsaber form) during his time and his defences were as impregnable as it's possible to get, it is made clear multiple times in the Prequel Trilogy that his Padawan, Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker was much stronger than he could ever hope to be.
Anakin Skywalker was often referred to as the most powerful Jedi Knight of the time and was believed to the chosen one, the one who will bring balance to the force by destroying the Sith. Chancellor Palpatine, later revealed to be a Sith Lord, himself told Anakin about his destiny to be the most powerful Jedi that ever lived.
Even after being so strong and willful, when he was attacked by Obi-Wan Kenobi on the Mustafar after turning to the Dark Side, he was defeated. But why?
Now yes, the high ground was an advantage but not the real reason Obi-Wan could beat Anakin. The answer can be found by observing and analysing the Prequel Trilogy alone. Anakin was strong with the Force but impulsive when making decisions. Although these impulsive decisions helped him on the battlefields, they weakened his connection with the Force. Obi-Wan always told him to be patient and to think with and listen to the Force, but he never really acquired this discipline. The Force is what gives a Jedi his power, his life, his weapon and his victory. When Anakin and Obi-Wan fought, Anakin was too over-confident with his connection to the Force while Obi-Wan remained patient and fought with the will of the Force. Due to this patience and discipline, Obi-Wan was able to maintain a stronger connection to the Force, and therefore, he was able to beat Anakin in single combat.
The truth is that if Anakin followed everything Obi-Wan had taught him, he would have defeated Obi-Wan in half as much time.

| Darth Vader |
The Duel at Mustafar was the last battle that Skywalker fought as himself. He later turned to Darth Vader and the story of the Original Trilogy follows. He was later defeated and rescued by his son, Luke Skywalker (read about Luke's surprise appearance in the Mandalorian here) and peace was restored to the galaxy once again by a Jedi.
